good grief! this board is hard to post on but i think i've got it now... again i mean.
I have no clue as to how to make a new topic. There surely must be one. I think I am replying to my original post.
If we're voting on anything of what daddyodilly posted I Vote for the video documentary. (I saw the Del Shannon appearance on Jerry Lewis's MDA.org telethon on YouTube which was great. I missed seeing him on it originally so that was grand.)
The first Del Shannon song I heard was "Runaway," in 1961. It was so unique compared to music at the time that it became an immediate favorite. It still is.
Over the years, "Runaway" was re-recorded by Del a few times. It was re-recorded in 1967 as "Runaway '67," which is still a very rare recording. He re-recorded it in the 80's, with lyric modifications, to be used as the theme for TV's "Crime Story." Also a rare recording. And, of course, he re-recorded it a couple of times to be used on "Oldies But Goodies" compilations by the likes of K-Tel records.
I've recently posted about my memories of that song and Del on my blog, Oldies But Goodies Music
Del Shannon is one of the most underrated and overlooked artists of our time. He wrote so many songs made famous by others, one can lose count. I am one fan who will NOT forget Del!
Just wanted to share that I was president of Del`s canadian fan club in the mid 60s. He always made time for me during his visits to Vancouver, BC. I have complied an archive package to sell on e-bay under collectables. It includes a personally signed 8x10 glossy Liberty Records portrait, copies of 7 letters I recieved from him assisting me in his fan club, tour info, 13 enlarged and unpublished candid photos of Del (approx. 8x10)& other items. Makes for interesting reading of what was happening with him & the music scene at that time. He made time for me and his fans.
Fans, Family, and Friends of Del Shannon may post and blog about their comments, views, stories, and recollections about Del Shannon and his music here.
Del Shannon was born Charles Weedon Westover in Grand Rapids, MI December 30, 1934. Died Santa Clarita, CA February 8, 1990. Best known for 1961 #1 hit record "Runaway", followed by other top hits to include "Hats Off To Larry", "So Long Baby", "Hey! Little Girl", "Swiss Maid", "Little Town Flirt", "Two Kind of Teardrops", "Handy Man", "Do You Wanna Dance", "Keep Searchin' (We'll Follow The Sun)", "Stranger In Town", "Sea Of Love", and "In My Arms Again". Shannon also penned the Top 10 hit "I Go To Pieces" for Peter & Gordon, and produced two Top 10 Hits "Baby, It's You" for Smith, and "Gypsy Woman" for Brian Hyland.

Now that we have a fresh forum in which to comment, allow me to offer my support for the commercial release of these items:
the Australian concert on DVD
a second Bear Family CD box set taking up where the first one left off
any single CD release of any Del Shannon recordings not currently in print elsewhere
a great video documentary for release on DVD (with lots of complete uninterrupted vintage TV performances as bonus features) AND on cable or public TV
great looking t-shirts bearing famous pics of Del

Just wanted to say that I "rediscovered" Del recently. Many memories of 1961 when I was fourteen. Certainly miss him.
