- Del Shannon was born Charles Weedon Westover in Grand Rapids, MI December 30, 1934. Died Santa Clarita, CA February 8, 1990. Best known for 1961 #1 hit record "Runaway", followed by other top hits to include "Hats Off To Larry", "So Long Baby", "Hey! Little Girl", "Swiss Maid", "Little Town Flirt", "Two Kind of Teardrops", "Handy Man", "Do You Wanna Dance", "Keep Searchin' (We'll Follow The Sun)", "Stranger In Town", "Sea Of Love", and "In My Arms Again". Shannon also penned the Top 10 hit "I Go To Pieces" for Peter & Gordon, and produced two Top 10 Hits "Baby, It's You" for Smith, and "Gypsy Woman" for Brian Hyland.

The Shirelles of Del's written Runaway is available on U.S. iTunes on the Gusto label, originally released 1964 (apparently), in stereo on The Shirelles Sing The Golden Oldies. Other songs are their own hit I Met Him On A Sunday plus 100 Pounds of Clay, My Prayer and others.
If anyone is in the Yahoo group and it's not posted there or elsewhere on delshannon.com maybe you could post it there. I haven't been in a Yahoo group in years. Nothing personal, just not my style.

Can anyone tell me how to play the intro to Broken Promises?
I play a somewhat bastardisation in the key of A but it's a little high for my vocal range. If I transpose it the G, it doesn't sound right.

You and Peter did an excellent job on I Go To Pieces and I might add Broken Promises also.
I once saw on the Internet a photo of the lyrics to "Little Town Flirt" written in Del's handwriting! It was a thrill to see it. What a great songwriter he was!
I was president of the canadian fan club for Del and have set up an archive package on e-bay under collectables. It includes a personally autographed Liberty Records portrait of Del and copies of letters I recieved from Del, tour info, and 13 unpublished candid shots. I saw him many times during his Vancouver visits during the 60s , he always made time to assist me. The letters make for very interesting reading of his activites and what was happening in the mid 60s music scene.
